Keynote: Broadening our Diversity Conversations in Science Communication

Room G.34

Hana Ayoob (Freelancer, UK)

So often when we talk about diversity in science communication we focus on audiences. While there are plenty of good reasons for doing so, ignoring the diversity of those doing the communicating and of the producers, project managers and others supporting them is holding science communication back. What are the barriers preventing some from walking on to our stages, appearing on our TV screens or organising our festivals? Drawing from my work with Minorities in STEM, science festivals and more I’ll discuss the impact this can have on our events and projects, and how can we improve the situation.

She has developed and delivered hundreds of events at national science festivals, working with researchers, artists and other collaborators. Hana regularly speaks and performs at comedy shows, festivals and other events and co-hosts the science and technology podcast Why Aren’t You a Doctor Yet?
