Event Info

The Science in Public Conference 2019 will run across three days from Wednesday 10 to Friday 12 July 2019, and will include presentation sessions and other activities in a variety of formats (see Call for Contributions). The Conference will be based at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Business School in central Manchester (see Travel), with satellite activities around Manchester and Salford.

The fee for registration, covering access to all sessions, lunches, and refreshments, is £239 for the full three days or £99 for one-day attendance. There is a reduced rate of £169 for the full three days and £59 for one-day attendance for students and representatives of community groups. Accommodation is available in Manchester Metropolitan University residence rooms at £126 for three nights or £101 for two nights; alternatively, hotels and short-stay apartments are available nearby at a wide range of prices and service levels.

A limited number of bursaries will be available. We will give priority to early career, student and low-income attendees, and to attendees travelling from the global South.

We are committed to ensuring the conference is accessible to everyone. If you have additional access needs that need to be confirmed to enable your attendance, please contact us to discuss further.

For access information about the venue please click here.

In terms of managing delegates access requirements, we will capture this information at registration then we liaise with the delegate to complete a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) form to better understand their needs so we can make any reasonable adjustments required.

For catering information please see  here  and here. We will capture people’s requirements at registration and ensure that their dietary requirements are accounted for.

Unfortunately we do not have a childcare provision on site, so are unable to offer this service to conference delegates. However, we are happy to direct you to independent, off-site provisions, and support your attendance in any way that we can.

Policy on attendance

The main purpose of the conference is to allow participants to meet and discuss current practice and work in progress. It is not a publication conference of the kind found in some academic fields: full paper texts are not required, and there will not be a volume of proceedings or similar centrally organised publication (although contributors are welcome to co-ordinate their own publication arrangements).

All participants will need to register to attend in order to appear on the final programme. Virtual attendance is available for contributors who are physically unable to travel to Manchester (for example, for reasons of disability or because of visa restrictions preventing travel to the UK).

SIP 2019 will be offering a bursary scheme to enable diverse audiences to attend the conference and lend their voices to the ongoing debates. These bursaries are primarily to encourage researchers and practitioners, in particular from the global south, people with disabilities, low/ or no income, who would otherwise not be able to come to the conference.

The deadline for applications is 23:00 (GMT) on Friday 15th March.
All successful applicants will be informed via email by 23:00 (GMT) on Friday 22nd March.
